A perfect cup of freshly prepared kava hits the spot any time of year. But if you’re in the colder climates of the Northern Hemisphere, a warm drink at the end of a chilly day might sound especially inviting.
Kava is a relaxing, social drink for any season. But if you’re looking for a new recipe for quiet nights at home or sharing with friends and loved ones, we have some great ideas for you.
Maple Cinnamon Kava Tea
A warming combination, maple and cinnamon is a great fall choice for people who prefer a little sweetness with their kava. Cinnamon may also give some anti-inflammatory benefits. Try adding a little maple to warm prepared kava, and add a cinnamon stick or a little sprinkle of cinnamon on top. Toddy fans might add a squeeze or a wedge of lemon to the party. (Please don’t add alcohol to kava.) Are any friends or family skeptical about the earthy taste of kava? This soothing kava tea drink might be a more gentle introduction. Add a warm blanket, and that’s about as cozy as it gets.
Kava Root Latte
Why let instant coffee have all the fun? Warm a cup of almond milk with a tablespoon of Bula Kava’s Micronized Instant Kava Powder and a teaspoon of maple syrup. Add more maple syrup to taste. Stir well and drink as is, or—our favorite—give it a good blend with an immersion blender. Sprinkle a little warming cinnamon or cardamom on top.
Kava Tea Chai
Masala chai has a beautiful history, and our favorite part is that you can make the recipe your own. You know chai as a delicious, warming, and personal beverage. You can start your chai from scratch by simmering your favorite combination of cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, peppercorns, anise, and your choice of decaffeinated black tea. After a long simmer, stir on some sweetener and dairy or non-dairy milk. Allow that to steep before straining, adding your prepared kava, and enjoying.
Or, if you’re looking for a more streamlined approach, just add a serving of instant kava to your favorite brand of prepared chai tea.
Fruity Kava
This drink isn’t served warm, but it is worth drinking any day of the year, in any weather. In the Northern Hemisphere's fall and winter, all sorts of delicious fruits are in season: apples, pears, cranberries, pomegranates, kiwis, kumquats, grapefruit, mandarins, and more. Consider what’s truly seasonal by adding some kava to freshly squeezed juice. Or take a short trip in your mind to a warm beach somewhere, thanks to a little kava in your pineapple-guava juice.
Preparing Delicious Kava at Home
A spoonful of our micronized instant kava makes preparation a snap if you’re in a hurry or are new to this sublime drink. Then, when you’re ready to start the traditional preparation method of kava root, pick up a Fijian kava strainer bag and a coconut cup. It only takes 10-15 minutes to prepare in the comfort of your home.
What’s your favorite way to enjoy kava when it’s feeling cold outside?
